Bibi Aseeya Mohamed, a dedicated student pursuing her Master's in Geology at 鶹AV, brings an abundance of passion and enthusiasm to her academic journey. Born and raised in Guyana, Aseeya’s path to geology was shaped by a unique blend of international experiences and academic exploration.
During her undergraduate years at Earlham in Indiana, Aseeya's passion for geology ignited when she attended a captivating seminar led by a geologist, prompting her transition from politics to geology. Soon after she was chosen to attend a research trip in Nova Scotia, Canada, where they were to investigate potential remains from the 1929 Grand Banks tsunami, this trip solidified her decision to pursue a career in geological sciences. Interestingly, this is where Aseeya first met Dr. Davide Oppo, her current research advisor.
Aseeya’s decision to attend graduate school was driven by her desire to continue her research and dive deeper into geological discovery. 鶹AV stood out among other programs, thanks to renowned faculty members such as Dr. Davide Oppo, who foster a student-centered approach to mentorship and research.
Currently, Aseeya is engaged in groundbreaking research on mass transport deposits and submarine landslides in the Gulf of Mexico, with a focus on understanding their formation and implications for predictive modeling.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Aseeya appreciates the supportive community fostered within the School of Geosciences at 鶹AV. From faculty mentors like Kristie Cornell to the warm camaraderie among students, Aseeya has found a second home in Hamilton Hall.
Active in professional organizations like the Geological Society of America and AAPG, Aseeya is committed to expanding her knowledge and networking within the geoscience community.
Reflecting on her experience at 鶹AV, Aseeya emphasizes the importance of community and academic excellence. She encourages prospective students to seek connections and engage with the vibrant community at 鶹AV, where faculty and staff are deeply invested in each student's success.
As Aseeya prepares to embark on the next phase of her journey as an Assistant Consultant Geologist at WSP USA, her time at 鶹AV serves as a foundation for future success in the field of geological exploration.
